Are you Afraid of Hanger Lane?

The Hanger Lane Gyratory System has just been voted as the most frigthening junction in the country - scarier than the notorious Spaghetti junction in Birmingham.I've never had a problem with Hanger Lane even when I drove round it for the first time straight after my driving test (in Greenford)after only 7 lessons!I am more afraid of driving over the level crossing at Acton Central.

Both Hanger Lane and Spaghetti are OK as long as you know the area, where you are going, and which lane you need. It is less easy if road signs point to places you do not know, and lane markings are covered by vehicles ahead. You do not have time to think if you are looking for Greenford but a sign lists Perivale. Add confusion caused by drivers deliberately using the wrong lane to bypass a queue, often forcing others to change lane to avoid them.

I've never understood the result of that survey either (which is from 2007 by the way,conducted by Highway Insurance Company).I mean, it is a busy junction but no worse than Marble Arch or Hyde Park corner or even Chiswick Roundabout.

Hanger Lane is easy peasy compared with Hyde Park Corner before the traffic lights! And I remember driving my old mum round Marble Arch (in the days when taking a car into London was a good deal easier) and she had her eyes closed all the way round (and no - it wasn't because of my driving style!) I think it all depends what you're used to: I learned to drive round Shepherds Bush Green in the rush hour so there's nothing much that worries me (apart from homicidal lorry drivers on the M1). But I have a friend who lives in the country who has never dared to bring a car into town and is petrified of roundabouts.

Hammersmith Broadway before they put the lights in.It required you  to push out into moving traffic or you could wait for 15 minuits for a gap.

I was told about a policeman from near Honiton who drove as far as Heathrow, then gave up, drove back home, and took the train to London

its far scarier to go under - the only reason i don't use Hanger Lane tube is the confusing network underneath. Please can someone make them put up traffic lights across the whole system.

Maybe the clown who made lots of money from the pointless servey realised the traffic did go on smothly and hated the idea and is intending to sell the idea that there should put speed bumps along this dangerous Hanger Lane.Used to be a lot quicker when one could take the short cut from Brunswick road and along the old Holiday inn.Now the taleback takes ages to get to Hanger Lane.Or maybe make the buss stops onto the road itself.(Like PITSHANGER LANE) or even Heston Road Heston where it takes ages to get through.Who comes up with these Idea's?Car haters............do gooders who have a free buss pass.
