Anyone interested in starting up a local bookstore? See other thread regarding local interest.

Maybe someone should give Oxfam books a call!

You'd have to sell truckloads of books to cover £26k rent, plus rates, utilities etc.Time for Victor and other landlords to moderate their rent demands methinks!

I'm not looking to rent long term but I am interested in setting up a 'pop-up' art gallery in a vacant shop-front in the Ealing or Acton area. I manage an art group for people with learning disabilities and we are looking to have an exhibition to show off some of the work they've created over the last 4 months. If you have a vacant shop-front available for a week or even a weekend in September or October prior to renting it out to someone on a long term lease, the members of the art group could help tidy the place up and you would benefit from any local press coverage and publicity the exhibition may get.If you think this is something you may be interested in, please get in touch...

Matthew what about contacting the council with a view to holding the exhibition in a library or town hall ? I would have thought you would get more viewings that way.I do hope you find somewhere...Good luck and i wish you well.

try jeremy Kahn - I think you should be able to PM him through here. He has an empty shop in Churchfield Road and is interested in art.

I had previously looked at Jeremy's shop as the base for the art group last year but had to go elsewhere due to the toilets being quite difficult to access for people with physical disabilities. I spoke to him recently about something else but didn't approach him about the pop-up gallery idea. I may raise it next time we talk...

Jeremy's shop would be ideal for displaying art. Being a corner property you would have two nice big windows and as it faces North you wouldn't have to worry about the sun bleaching the exhibits. Is there room to build an accessible toilet on the ground floor?
