Is Acton the 'poor relation'???
The other day whilst in Bond Street Ealing I met one of my neighbours so we chatted for a while. Looking around at the posh new street furniture, silver coloured rubbish bins, large planted flower boxes and so on, he said it looks like Acton is the poor relation to Ealing!Why does Acton High Street always seem so neglected compared to areas like Bond Street, he enquired. I must say I have to agree with some of his remarks. I know Acton High Street is slowly being improved but surely more could be done to attract visitors to Acton.I think we could do with better seating areas, perhaps stone blocks similar to the ones outside Westfield which are less likely to be vandalised! There are 2 dead Cherry trees in King Street, and a dead Cypress Tree outside Morrisons which the Council is aware of, but so far these have not been removed! It is this sort of thing which can make an area feel neglected.The sight of street drinkers outside St Mary's Church is also not very nice.We do need to attract more shoppers into Acton but apart from those of us who live locally who spend money in the area we can't compete with places like Westfield, Chiswick or Ealing Broadway.The one good thing is that finally the bridge has been cleared of grafitti but that was an ongoing problem finally resolved by the previous administration.Sadly there are far too many empty shops in the High Street but I guess that's the same everywhere.
