construction next to Sprinfield Dental Surgery on Horn Lane

I was just wondering if anyone knew any more info. on what looks like a house being built next to the dental surgery.  It used to be a builders yard for years.Just looks a bit odd and very close to the flats next to it.

It is surprising to see just how dense this development is becoming! They started on 1 block at the rear of the site, folloowed by a second block and now the building goes on apace with yet one more block in front!Heaven knows how residents would vacate this area in the event of a fire - there is no rear access as far as I am aware! No parking either by the looks of it. Already parking is at a premium in the area, and of course vehicles parking outside Springfield Dentist causes an obstruction to motorists driving along Horn Lane towards Acton High Street. Today the bus had to manouvre between the centre island and a huge lorry parked outside the entrance to Springfield Dentist! This can only get worse!How on earth was this development passed by the council I wonder???

"How on earth was this development passed by the council I wonder???"Indeed! It was voted through 5-4 at planning committee in March 2009. Outrageous, and I said so at the planning commitee meeting (I heard later I'd upset the planning officers with my comments, poor dears). 21 flats, 2 parking spaces, 2 storeys fronting Horn Lane, 4 storeys at the rear. I was told some months later that the original plans involved more storeys on Horn Lane and less at the back, which would make more sense, but planning officers hadn't liked this. And then there's the development at the corner of Horn Lane and Rosemont Rd. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Vlod. This isn't a private development is it? I seem to recall reading on the signs outside that it was for social housing/housing association although i may be wrong. I was driving by at the time.

.....already the local schools are bursting at their seams, parking is horrendous....and dare I say, too many people = too much crime and disorder.    Crowd everyone in a small space and see what happens...!!  mice eat one another !! Not a good recipe for a nice lifestyle and the 'Big Society'.

Local residents in the roads facing this development (including me!)fought very hard to prevent and reduce the scale of it. Some minor adjustemnts were made but not to the extent that neighbous wanted. Very frustating. The development is dense and objectors were concerned about access, play space for children, impact on local schools and car parking. Councillors (not Vlod, who tried his best)were clearly not concerned about the same issues.

Chicken Coop Housing, by The Cram 'em In Housing Company it looks to me.How on earth are people expected to live cheek by jowl like that without the usual social problems erupting?

Alison, I remember the lack of support for your objections - as there is to others.  There is a need for an 'Acton Wide' view being taken on all these applications - plus that on the large advertising boards which are appearing everywhere.Vlod, why did those on the Committee AGREE (sorry for capitals) with the application?

Probably/possibly someone retired or semi-retired with a little bit of time available.Problem is that most of us have a day job and something like that takes a lot of co-ordination and effort.

I would have thought at local residents associations should all get together to put forward a united front.
