You coulden't make this up if you tried.......

CPZ starts in my street today and over the past couple of months the road has been marked out, parking bays, yellow lines, etc etc. But guess what ??20 minutes ago a letter pops through my door to say that on the 13/09/2010, works will start to adjust kerbs and gullies and will last for approx 2 weeks.THEN, they will resurface the carriageway and this is expected to last a further 3 weeks........so all the marking out for the CPZ will be lost and have to be done all over again.Why wasn't this work carried out before the CPZ markings ?......Unbelievable !!!...........What a gross waste of money......

Are you in either the Gypsy Corner or West Acton CPZ's?If so, rightly or wrongly, I was advised that as these extensions should have originally gone 'live' in March 2010 and had been substantially delayed for various reasons, the descision was taken to go ahead with implementating these zones rather than delayed them by yet another 3 months.Not ideal, but they thought residents within these zones who had been experiencing ongoing parking issues from commuters shouldn't have the zones delayed any further.

Perhaps the kerbs and gullies work is urgent and therefore could not be scheduled in with the CPZ works - why not call Highways and ask them.I am sure there must be a sensible explanation.

Dee. As far as i can see there is nothing urgent re the kerbs and gullies. Look perfectly fine to me.I'm in the West Acton CPZ. Zone Z 10-11am & 2-3pm. When the consulation went through, we chose against the CPZ as did a lot of the residents at 'this end' of the road as there has never been a parking problem before and we coulden't foresee there being one, but needless to say it went ahead anyway........but that's neither here nor there.......The busiest time of day for parking here is after 5.30 pm when all the 'white vans' appear but still not a problem to park. We were reliably informed well over a year ago that our road was due to be resurfaced so my point was, why wait until now to do it when it could have been done before CPZ came into force....i agree with Jean........Right hand over left and a total waste of funds.......Bad management.

I just got the resurfacing letter as well, a couple of months after they painted the CPZ markings and less than a week after it went live. Sheer, bone-headed incompetence on a grand scale

As far as I know the West Acton area has not received the replacement gas and water pipes yet. I am in North Acton, and expect at some time soon replacement gas and water pipes plus replacement electricity cables (several faults with old overloaded feeders in recent years), and we also have a large number of major services routed through here. Every time there is any ground work there is a very high risk of consequential damage to other services. The roads are a mess, and there is excessive vibration causing further deterioration. And we are now within the CPZ.
