Laptop repair

I am trying to find a reliable laptop repairer to work on our laptops which have become infected - weve lost sound, admin rights, network updates and all sorts. I have searched through previous posts and also on recommended traders websites but would welcome advice from forum members. Ideally, it would be an IT person who could work on the laptops at our home - if thats possible?

My keyboad on my lap top has stopped working as a bit of water got inside it. Can they be replaced? I am using a keyboard adapter at the moment.

Sometimes,I believe, it is a good idea to remove the battery straight away when water "gets inside"...same in the case of a camera.Sometimes, even a week later..bingo to one's surprise, the dampness dries out, and the technology is up and running again.Fingers crossed

It's usually possible to remove and replace a laptop keyboard without too much trauma. You can usually find a replacement keyboard on eBay, but be careful to get EXACTLY the right one for your model. They are not easily interchangeable.You could also try Portables Direct on Scrubbs Lanewww.portables.co.ukYou may be able to work out how to do the replacement just by close inspection. If not, search the internet. Dell (I've replaced half a dozen Dell keyboards over the years) make their service manuals easily available, but I wouldn't know about any other manufacturer. I have occasionally found dismantling guides posted to user forums

One of the place I used to worked in had left their their Keyboard under a leaking air con unit. We replaced the keyboard and did the following to the old KYB:1) clean it out throughout2) Left it to dry out for about a week (can blow dry it if u can't wait)3) It was wrking after that.But than it was the 80's and price of a IBM Keyboard were into the £100s.Try the above steps and see if it works b4 u try the replacement route as most parts (even on laptops) are much more resilient these days.

Don't do that, it will make it worst!Just hand clean it.

If you've got a busy field engineering team and no spare effort to do hand cleaning, and your keyboard supplier has let you down, the dishwasher route was Plan B - and it worked!

A leaky PCB can often be successfully cleaned in a dishwasher.Reference: The book "Troubleshooting Analog Circuits" by the great Bob Pease.
