traffic stoppage on Tuesday night

Was coming away from a meeting in Hale Gardens on Tuesday night, and found the Uxbridge road closedby the police from about the glass shop opposite Hale Gardens to past Ealing Common station, going West. Several cars, a bus and a Morrisons lorry were stationary and dark in the area closed by the police Anyone know what was going on?

When walking home on Tuesday, I saw some of the aftermath from what must have been a very bad car crash. One, possibly two - it was impossible to tell - concertinaed cars being loaded onto a lorry. Police didn't want to talk about details, so don't know what happened to the driver(s).
