The private flats in these developments are still mostly unoccupied - I am involved in a local community project hoping to involve the residents and we can't start yet because not enough flats are occupied, so there has so far been no tangible impact on parking. There was a very loose "consultation" about 18 months ago, which mentioned nothing of this drastic nature. When questioned by a resident about the new operation times of the CPZ, the council said it was because of Virgin Active nearby. Virgin Active, however, is some distance away on the opposite side of Acton Vale, and has been there for ten years without causing any disruption to the parking of residents in Valetta Road. This is simply a stealth tax, and Local Authorities should be more honest about the means by which they raise money from their residents. And if I thought this revenue was actually going to be reinvested in the streets themselves, I might not be so miffed. But has anyone seen the state of Valetta Road and roads surrounding? Simply dangerous.
