Hammersmith Council 'Super Development'
What started as a nice idea, removing the ugly 1970's extension to the 1930's Town Hall on King St has grown to include two 14 storey residential tower blocks (with no affordable homes)offices, car park and supermarket. A ped bridge over the A4 to the river, also a nice idea until you realise it will dominate Furnival gardens....The locals are revolting, see http://www.saveourskyline.co.uk/index.phpCould be interesting as the development straddles two wards inc. solidly tory Ravenscourt where ex Federation of Conservative Students libertarian, Harry Phibbs holds a seat. The FCS was so rabid that Norman Tebbit closed it down! Perhaps the impending fuss about the desecration of the riverside will see Harry closed as well...Hammersmith campaigned against the Thames Tunnel calling it 'the super sewer' using scare stories that Furnival Gdns would be dug up for years. Amusing to see that the gardens are now under threat from their own 'super' development!
