Ward Forum

I have been to pretty much every one but that was by far the worst and most pointless....No proper accounts...no progress...we don't know where we are or what's happening and things agreed over two years ago still haven't been done.It seemed a futile exercise in superficial accountability.Still, the new community police set up seems an improvement and at last is properly staffed. High hopes there at any rate.

I often wonder how much real power Councillors actually wield, regardless of the political party supposedly in control.It seems to me that the Council's senior civil servants "run" the Council to their own agenda, despite whatever they are directed to do by the political party purportedly in charge?Discuss.

Rosco,Ealing Council traditionally (and currently) is officer-led which means that officers find it easier to direct policy into implementation with fewer changes either by councillors or residents.In terms of powers there are a range - the party that runs the council has many more. As chair of the Southfield ward forum with my two Lib Dem councillors we arranged for £10,000 to be allocated into a local project where children and teenagers will have access to equipment and room hirage like social club.People often have a go at teens but unless they are given a chance to mix and take part in sporting / recreational activities then we miss opportunities we could give to our childre.Cllr Gary Malcolm
