Burglary in Avenue Gardens
We were burgled at 2:30 this morning. Our burglar alarm went off and I went downstairs to check and turn off the alarm. Everything seemed OK so went back to bed.We discovered at 10:00 am that my wife's handbag had been stolen. It contained her mobile phone, credit cards, cash and passport. She immediately reported to the Halifax that her direct debit card had been stolen and discovered that a woman had gone to the Ealing Broadway branch and at 09:06 had presented my wife's card and withdrew £500 from her account! According to a representative, on the phone from the Halifax, the imposter had answered all security questions correctly. According to a representative in the branch, anyone can withdraw up to £1200 from an account if the signature looks valid. Our burglary was probably by someone opening our front door yale lock by using a wire through the letterbox. So the lesson is to always mortice lock a front door. We thought that an active burglar alarm and security lights would be secure and allow us an unlocked fire exit if needed - well not any longer. Our house is now more like Fort Knox!
