Driving Theory Test

My number one son is to have his first ever driving lesson on Monday (God help us all, stay off the roads between 4-6pm) and is yet to book his theory test let alone start reading up on it, so my question is; which theory test book is best and how long would you think before a normal young person would be ready to take the theory test?

Two evenings of revision/study should be plenty for a reasonably inteligent lad. We found the CD- Rom the best - can't recall which one but it means you can practice in similar circumstances to the test itself.You may need to buy one but if he is young for his year, other kids in the class may have one - or you can get several families to club together and put in a fiver each.Book it asap - there's quite a lot of leeway between taking it and the practical test.

Heard an item on tv consumer programme that some people are paying more than they should for a theory test by booking on websites that are agencies who book on your behalf and charge you for the privilege. They are the top responses in internet searches. The correct fee is £31 so beware if asked for more. www.direct.gov.uk and following motoring links.
