Burglary

Unfortunately I was burgled on Weds between 8am and 130pm My laptop was taken plus a camera a mobile phone a small black Delsey shoulder bag and a quantity of drink.If anyone comes across a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1718 with a Targus carrybag I would be very pleased to hear from them. The unique identifiers for the laptop are that it has a sticking left shift key and a pirate verion of Windows Messenger ( installed by my errant elder son!)Many Thanks

Sara:All information concerning such anti-social behaviour is of use.  It is a reminder to us all to be vigilant - in the way we have to secure our properties - and as time goes on and money gets short, the police force diminish, tbe PSCO service is cut, all the more so.Being confronted in your hallway or bedroom by an intruder is not a nice experience.

That is my road! It's slightly worrying that this is going on, I have only lived here for about a month but Acton seems like quite a community oriented area so for this to happen in the middle of the morning seems quite scary.The worst is that there seems to be loads of damn foxes running about the place fighting and making a mess so there are lots of worrying noises in the night.

Beth, no need to worry.  But it is helpful to know what is going on in order to catch them in the act.  It happens everywhere - but less in Acton that in other neighbourhoods because we are so viligent.

Beth, try not to worry unduly! We have lived in our road for over 30 years and have some lovely neighbours.We try keep a look out and if anything strange is going on it is reported to the Police. It is a shame that we don't get to meet more neighbours but it is not easy in London, especially for those who go out to work, I guess they have no time for socialising.I agree with your comments about the foxes, we see them even in the early evenings sometimes!

Hi BethWe've lived around the corner for years and while there is some crime -inevitable anywhere in London- I think Acton is pretty safe. This forum helps.Stats will show that Chiswick has more crime : Though probably less damn Foxes

The foxes are encouraged by the fact that residents put food waste into their black bags, not using the green wet waste bins.  Beth, are you aware of the Council's recycling regime?

Yeah, we have our little green box for food wastage, trouble is we are in flats so I am never sure what the other people in our house are doing.The foxes are everywhere though, I left to go to work last night at 6 and there were 2 running down the street.I think they must just like the area!

They travel along the Overground train route - plenty of hide holes and green spaces - as does other 'wild life'.  There are those residents who quite like them and they feed them which also encourages them.  We have had incidents in the summer of foxes coming into people's homes.  So if you live on the ground floor you need to be aware of this.

Sorry to hear that Roger, i deliver the packets around milton rd, cowper rd, shakespeare rd etc... i'm always looking around for dodgy people, unfortunately Acton is no different to other areas, so we need to keep vigilant... i've worked in acton since 1987, & the crime count has been reduced, but this is the time of year, when people are out shopping, that these thieves get brave... :(
