mice, help please?

We have mice and was wondering what was the best way of getting rid of them. Have poison and traps out but so far we have only caught one! Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good mouse catcher?

peanut butter always works a treat in traps

His name is Milo and he is a vicious mouse killing machine (who likes to have his tummy rubbed "just so").  When we first moved in the house was literally overrun: mouse droppings everywhere - we would see them run across the floor as we watched TV, ate in the kitchen.... Tried every trap on the market - peanut butter, snickers etc etc, nothing worked, then our neighbour off loaded an unwanted kitten who made his first kill 2 weeks after he arrived and didn't stop until the house was mouse-free.

Prevention is better than cure.What is their food source?  FIRST REMOVE IT.  Do you have neighbours who do not dispose of their rubbish in the right and proper way?Then put down the old style wooden traps (watch your fingers when setting them) bated with CHOCOLATE.  Place them along your walls at obvious entry points - mice tend to run around he edges of a room.That should do the trick, but you must make sure that any food source within your property is kept locked away and any entry points are sealed up.

Yes, have spent the entire day, sealing holes with steel wool and tape! Traps every where, all food sources are already in air tight containers so fingers crossed! Also have peppermint oil everywhere, apparently they hate the smell, and one of those electronic devices for good measure! I know alot of neighbours have had problems as well, I really wish they would employ full time mouse catchers to control the population, as I think the numbers are out of control.

Unfortunately, it's all a complete waste of time if you have dirty neighbours who don't keep their garbage secure in vermin proof containers, generally live irresponsibly, and don't give a toss.Plenty of them about.

... and of course mice just love compost heaps, especially the stuff on the insides of egg shells.  They make their nests in them.

shao i found a mouse recently and my husband had a great cure -humane and no need to kill any mice.he bought a battery operated rodent repellent on ebay for about £20.it emits a sonic sound that only mice and rats can detect and they will not come anywhere near it(there is an exact distance but ive forgotten sorry but it is a large area)he has used the repellant in his dressing room at a sports field in boston manor where large rats used to be rampent leaving droppings everywhere but since the introduction they have disappeared and the dressing room is spotless.it only uses a 9v battery and needs to be changed every 6 months.it also has a flashing red light to show its working.i hope this helps all who read this.eliz

My experience is that mice 'get used' to the noise therefore rendering the repellents useless, unless of course you buy an expensive version which changes the frequencies every so often.

I have those electronic repellents! I've had them in before the mice arrived! Let me know the make, maybe those ones are more efficient!

Shao-Ying, you might wish to contact Ealing Council who will be cheaper than a private company. The number of the relevant team is: (020) 8825 6644.It sounds like there might be a wider issue with a few homes / neighbours so if they are friendly then they could sort out a couple of the properties in their visits.
