Bike

I have now got myself 2 jobs, both in Chiswick and to save myself some bus money I was thinking of getting myself a bike to get me to and from work just because it is slightly too far for me to want to walk to work at 6am and to walk home from work at 1am.So, I was wondering if anyone maybe had a bike they don't use anymore or are willing to give away. Of course I am willing to pay (although I don't have a great deal of money so don't expect too much!)If not, could anyone reccommend somewhere that I could buy a bike (maybe a fold up one) for a decent price?Cheers,Beth x

I bought a 2nd hand bike from Woolseys 18 months ago for not a lot of money after my nicer bike was stolen. It's a bit rusty and needs some tlc but you're very welcome to have it. I certainly wouldn't want anything for it as I don't think it will survive much longer if it stays in my garden. PM me if interested.

Try Freecycle (I think they may have renamed themselves Freegle).  Great way to get or give away stuff for free.

Freecycle is still going strong!Woolsey are good as are Cash Convertors [though pricey]. Ealing Bike Hub [www.ealingbikehub.co.uk] also sells them but we don't have much in right now. We also offer help checking them over and getting them running.

Loads of bikes end up at the stirling road recycling centre in the metals skip. Items are not supposed to be removed but................ a nice word may or may not secure you one.

They are both very different to what I am used to but in a good way. One is in the Hogarth club in Chiswick which is sister to the Park Club, I am working as a bar and restaurant assistant and the other is in the Crown and Anchor in Chiswick which is hard work and very busy but it feels really good to be out of the house and doing something.It's the two buses at once theory, I had a trial shift in the Crown and he said he wanted someone with more experience in that sort of place so I didn't get it and then when I did my trial shift at the Hogarth, he rang me up and said he had changed his mind and really wanted me at the Crown just as the Hogarth had offered me the job.It's hard hard work which often has me starting work at 6am in one place and finishing at 1am in the other.It all pays the rent at the end of the day!Thanks for your congrats and everyone for their help with the bike. X

Just a reminder to everyone the bike doctor turns up at the square in front of Morrisons on the second Saturday of the month - from about 10 o clock. There were three of them there on Saturday, just gone, doing a grand job. Ealing Council pays for them (presumably from our Council Tax) and I suspect it is the type of service that we use or lose.

There's also more formal lessons held on the first Saturday of the month in Greenford. Far more hands on - puncture repairs, brakes, gears, cleaning etc. Very practical and a chance to work on your own bike both during and after the session. We also sell and hire bikes and the workshop is open for casual users if you want to drop by and use our tools.www.ealingbikehub.co.uk
