THE BIG SOCIETY - and clearing your frontages of  snow/ice

Yet again, it was most disappointing that more people in the Goldsmith area have not cleared their frontages.It took me 10 minutes maximum to sweep ours and put down salt.Come on the good residents of Acton please get your brooms/shovels out and help the blind and disabled to get down to the shops and about their business.No excuses - not my job, I could cause an accident, etc, etc, etc.Thank you.

Following the last forum message, I cleared my frontage on saturday afternoon. Four local boys out to play in the snow offered to help me. I advised them that there were elderly people next door so it would be great if they could help at that house. The boys spend over an hour clearing the houses on either side of mine, borrowing my shovel and broom. I heard them talking to each other about how important it is to be kind to other people. Too many people happily write off boys as a nuisance. These four boys, aged between 8 and 11 prove all the cynics wrong.

Couldn't - have been in Amsterdam since the snow fell...but taking my Mum home to Surrey this evening was appalled to see not one frontage cleared and the road all but impassible for lack of grit or anything else.Acton postively public spirited by comparison!Will be out ealy-ish to do mine so maybe we can have a jolly event sweeping madly

If the cold weather continues grit will be spread around less copiously - money spent on grit cannot be spent elsewhere.So.... get those brooms and shovels out.  It's all good exercise and surprise, surprise, people passing by actually speak to you !!.... and well done the boys....

Done - but am deeply unimpressed by (OK cheap) broom bought fromt he DIY shop[ in Churchfield Road which lasted precisely four brushes - so now have to go back!

The knack is to sweep up the snow before people walk over it .... but of course you have to be around to do that.Homebase are selling snow shovels (if they have any left - Kensington branch had 5) wooden handle and plastic shovel £15.

Are those the wide, flexible ones - we saw a few deployed by Amsterdam shopkeepers and would rather like one - maybe we should have some for the street.

Maybe you lot down there can clear up all your dog shit, too. At least you can see it a little better in all the snow.

Hayes, the main offenders who let their dogs sh.t in Goldsmith Avenue do not live there. They live in Grafton Road and environs.  They walk their dogs down the Avenue on the way to Acton Park, particularly on the east side, which is the side on which the Park is located.They usually sh.t half way down or in Goldsmith Road, when the dog(s) can't hold it much longer.When the snow fell, one was made aware of how much urine they also deposit by the yellow patches in the snow.All disgusting, as is the foxes sh.t.
