A rubbish collection

does anyone know if the council decided just to pick up some of the recycling this week? they left our green bin and food bin but took the plastic!i dont want to complain un necessarily as getting a 15 tonne lorry to come and specially collect my recycling seems against what recycling is about but ive run out of room ! and er its xmas

It happens all the time in the Goldsmith area.  I suspect the vehicle may be full up.  But I really do think they just can't be bothered, or are not trained correctly.You don't have anything you should not have in your green bin and food bin do you?  Because if you do they will not collect it.If you email customers@ealing.gov.uk they will come round the next day and collect the non-collected items.

thanks Dee. i didnt have anything but usually if they dont like something they just leave that item! i think i'll have to get them over. Its a bit like getting a fire engine out to fit a smoke alarm tho !

Sorry to hijack this thread but it's still on topic.Are Ealing Council serious about refuse collections having no date change in the Christmas week?! Can't believe if it is true that there are actually going to be rubbish collections on Christmas Day and the public holiday days after! If this is true, how did they maanage to swing that one with May Gurney? Has our council tax money which could be spent on more grit been put towards Christmas bonuses/overtime pay for the refuse collectors?I know refuse collections over Christmas are important, particularly if people's normal refuse collection day has been missed due to the bad weather, but I'd still rather see some council tax money go towards gritting pavements in side streets, particularly in parts of the borough that still have a fair bit of ice on the pavements as it hasn't been able to properly defrost/melt yet. I ventured out to Westfield today and had to risk my life by walking in the road pretty much up to Churchfield Road as a lot of the pavements are still so bad. I know Ealing aren't the only council not to grit side roads, but it seems crazy that with the majority of council tax payers actually living on these side streets they aren't seeing anything done with their money about clearing them.

James I am not sure where you got the evidence about collections occurring on Xmas Day and other public holidays, since seems most unlikely?On the later collections occurring pre Xmas, our street has suffered some of the different collection units being a day late (remembering that your rubbish gets collected by different teams and trucks) but they have all finally turned up pre Xmas. The reasons given in talking to them has been a mix of bad roads inevitably plus sheer overload of stuff being collected (especially the bottle and food recycling smaller sized truck) so maybe our own consumption levels personal are indirectly a factor!On a related point, we have always given Xmas tips to the different collection teams since we believe they do an excellent job all year around. My wife was very surprised to be told by some of the guys this time that they in recent years get hardly any such tips - has the world really changed so dramatically on this issue in relation to this group of workers?

Joe, here's the link to the Ealing council information on their site: http://www.ealing.gov.uk/press_releases/2010/december/pr_259.htmlIt states, and I quote: "This year residents' refuse and recycling collections will stay the same over Christmas, and will only be one day later in the first week of January" and indeed it does say "Saturday 25 December-1st January: No change".

Thanks James - guess time will tell whether badly worded posting or not - seems to be we did not get the normal Ealing Council leaflet through the door on changed collection dates over Bank Holidays per my wife.

That's obviously where I'm going wrong! As with so much other bumph and junk received through the letterbox, I just put it straight into the paper for recycling bag.

And I was really pleased they didn't seem to try to negotiate my road with their big lorries!  I thought I'd leave it until after Christmas - the weather has to get better.The Council info is on the website.  Surely the problems were due to the difficulties of negotiating the roads, and extra time required to collect.

Most of my neighbours must have thought the collection was not until tomorrow, fortunately I left my recycling out!Very few houses left their green boxes etc out today!

The recycling crew were active in the Goldsmith area this morning at their usual Thursday 7.30ish time. Any recycling not collected will have to wait for collection until next FRIDAY (one day late).  No problem as long as the rubbish not placed on the pavement or in the roadway.

In Acton Vale and other more local W4 places a number of residents have also complained about this. The excuse of the snow / weather is still being used which is rather extreme given the okay weather we have had for a while now.

i assumed as we are generally a thursday, it would be picked up today - but nothing - and other people obviously know better - so can anyone tell me recycling/rubbish day for Goldsmith Avenue this week - or are we being skipped?

Sara the Thursday 27 January collection happened as per usual.  If you were missed - email customers@ealing.gov.uk as per usual to report non-collection.Next week the Thursday collection will happen one day late, ie, on Friday 7 January (because Monday 3 January is a Bank Holiday).

Bother - though I assume you mean December not january.I was away but could have instructed son to put stuff out and didn't - so it will sit about for another week.How irritating - that will teach me to read the leaflet before recycling it!

We had our rubbish and recycling collected on our normal collection day, a Saturday, even though it was Christmas Day and New Year's Day!

Sara - you could have handed over the responsibility to find out and organise putting it out on the right day!  Teenagers are brilliant at accessing sites on the internet.  You just need to make sure they share the information they find out/write it down so that it can be remembered by the rest of us!

Anyone know whether the rubbish recycling collection in Goldsmith Avenue is Thursday or Friday this week...cos the bank holiday?Not that it made any difference last week which was confusing.

Collections are a day later than normal this week so if your usual day is Thursday, it will be collected on Friday.......

Not knowing what day your rubbish is collected is not a problem as long as it is stored in the right and proper fashion ON YOUR FRONTAGE, from where the refuse crews are supposed to collect it. NOT IN THE ROADWAY or ON THE PAVEMENT, where it is a danger for the blind and disabled. (apologies for capitals)Therefore it follows that should the refuse crews be unable to collect your rubbish on whatever day, for whatever reason, it is not causing anyone inconvenience, or breaking any sections of the Highways Act, for which you can be fined.If everyone put their:Plastics into the white bagGarden Waste into the pink bagWet waste into the green binOther non-recyclable waste into a black bag (hopefully contained within a black plastic dustbin)on a DAILY basisThere should be no problems - simple - like cleaning your teeth !!Why is such a simple thing so difficult?????

Goldsmith Avenue lined with bags today Doris - just be careful.The sheer quantity we have for this week (having done a trip to the dump over xmas) is unbelievable.Comes of serial voluntary entertaining and the involuntary running of an international youth hostel.

Fortunately I am fit and able to avoid breaking a leg falling over other people's rubbish.  Other's are not for fortunate.  Remember there are 2 people who use disability vehicles and one in a wheel chair who live on the eastern side of Goldsmith Avenue.So much for the 'Big Society'.Have you reported this illegal dumping of rubbish on the public footway/highway to customers@ealing.gov.uk?PS:  I do hope your visitors took the time to sort and therefore recycle everything that could be recycled!

'the involuntary running of an international youth hostel'  Hmm - sounds more like a hotel to me Sara, and a hotel doesn't have to be 5* to be a hotel says me who just dreams and looks at brochures.  Now I wonder what would they have to do on a kibbutz?  I haven't been on one but know that someone in your family has...

Work a darn sight harder than they do at home!Am not sure that rolling in at 0430 with not quite sober pal would be acceptable even in the loucher hotels/hostels!
