Could anyone tell me whether there is a local book club that might accept a new member? Alternatively, if there is not, are there any forum members who might join me in a new group?

If you don't have the book and need to borrow it just pop around and I can lend you my as yet unread copy.

It's a very good book - though not exactly a cheery read.

How long do the sessions tend to last? Presumably there's a fee for the use of the room?

The sessions are 90 minutes.Phillippe at the Rocket very generously doesn't charge a fee for our use of the room - we all tend to buy a coffee or drink each time though. We charge ourselves £3 each per time (dating back to when we were professionally led) and then every three months or so spend the kitty on a buffet lunch there. So everyone wins.

Dunno why this is bumped but for anyone who wants to know, it's Germinal by Zola tomorrow (no laughs!) at 2.30...plus a vegetarian buffet. Philip Roth American Pastoral next month

Who would think Zola's Germinal would generate such enthusiasm?Maybe it was the genital mutilation that did it.
