Morrisons Price Increases

I was expecting things to be a little more expensive in the new year with the VAT increase but Morrisons have just upped the price of the baby milk cartons we buy from 57p to 66p, an increase of over 15% - ouch!  Anyone else notice any other cheeky increases?

Is VAT charged on baby milk? I thought food items were exempt?

I'm still here ! !

All the major supermarkets are changing their prices almost daily in order to compete with each other.  If you see a 'special' offer, buy a couple of months supply (if not perishable) - the supermarkets don't like people doing that!!  You have to learn to be smarter than their marketing people.Why not post here any 'specials' that may be of interest?

Isn't baby formula milk in the 0% VAT chargeable band?  It is amazing which things are and aren't chargeable to VAT - some of which are chargeable yes chargeable at 0@.  Debating issues such as whether a Jaffa cake is a cake or a biscuit must be keeping many people in employment.Be very wary of buying in bulk - what the kids can't get enough of one month can be considered poisonous and why- would-anybody-consider-eating-it the next.

Phillipa, I was referring to toilet rolls, washing powder, etc, not perishable food.

and I was referring to breakfast cereal which was a constant problem - won't eat anything but and then suddenly won't touch!Prices will surely go up with price rises elsewhere in the chain eg the cost of fuel.

Phillipa, the old Tesco way of 'pile them high and sell them cheap' is already creeping back.  So as in days gone by customer loyality to one supermarket will disappear.  People will buy where the prices are cheaper.

There is VAT on fresh orange juice and crisps, not sure what other food carries VAT. Waitrose is the only supermarket I know that lists the items on their till reciepts that carry VAT
