passport photos

I need a new passport: any recommendations for somewhere local to have the photo taken? Past efforts in a photo-me booth have been pretty dire! I had a quick search on the forum, but it doesn't seem to have been a recent problem for anyone...

The chemist in Horn Lane used to do it and maybe still does - good and reasonable

Chemist near the top of Acton Lane, junction with Clovelly Rd. They charge a fiver and did mine three times before they were satisfied. Passport back within five days, no problems. Called something like Alisha.

Snappy snaps will also do them (on the high street). I go in there fairly regularly, and they're always helpful and patient.

Much the best way to do it; then they can't say that you've used the wrong ink or strayed over the lines.

Apologies if this sounds a bit dumb, but I need to renew my passport (it ran out in September last year) can you do it all online, even adding the photos, and how would you get the signatures?I would rather ask someone like you who has done it recently, rather than wade through all the stuff online.

You fill in the form online, then they post it to you for signature and photos and return of the old one. I sent mine back registered post, to be on the safe side, costs about a fiver. If its just a renewal then there shouldn't be any other formalities, unless your appearance has changed radically. I got my new passport in about five days, which I thought was excellent service!

They explain on the website that they can't accept photos electronically (for technical and security reasons), so you can either get a form from the post office and do it all manually, or fill in the form online. As Susan explained, they then send it to you to sign, add the photos and return, along with your old passport.If it's a renewal the photos don't have to be signed on the reverse as a true likeness, unless 'your appearance is very different from the photo in your current or last passport'. I think they only care about the face, for facial recognition software.

And you have to look straight forwards...take off your glasses and NOT SMILE.So essentially, look as bad as you possibly can and for the next ten years.

I eventually went to Snappy Snaps (closest for me) where they were very helpful and thorough. The end result was excellent, technically - and I look suitably grim!
