recycling cards

I've only just sorted out the pile of this year's Christmas cards... but when I took them up to Morrisons the recycling box there had disappeared. Has anyone spotted anywhere else offering recycling for Christmas cards, and still operating?

I think I saw the M & S in Hammersmith still had a recycling box the other day, so maybe it's worth trying (another branch if more convenient).  Or you could sit in front of the TV one evening and cut them up to use as gift-tags.

You could always try making your own greeting cards, if so you can use some bits from the old cards to make new ones!It is a very enjoyable hobby and people really appreciate hand made cards!

http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/Pages/default.aspxThere is info on the card recycling on the left hand side of this site.  It may have been just in January though and the Woodland Trust say that it is the last year that they will be doing this.  The money goes to planting trees and you can vote to have trees planted in your area.It is a great website to visit anyway.  I love their bare twigs quizzes etc.

A friend who just had an op made her own cards this year as she couldn't go out and it was something to do while laid up.  I make gift tags out of the ones best suited and put them away with the Christmas decorations ready for next year. It is quite good to make them when you don't feel under pressure ie not just before Christmas!

The Woodland Trust scheme provides the M&S recycling boxes, apparently. I must get off there ASAP and see if their's are still on site. And next year, must deal with the cards in  better time! Thanks for all suggestions, but handicrafts was my least favourite class at school... :-[

I have been making my own cards for many years and I am pleased to say that a few of my friends also enjoy making them (when they have the time of course!).It is a very relaxing hobby but can be expensive if one visits craft shops too often!

I understood that they started this about 14 years ago when there was little cardboard recycling.  Now that there is cardboard recycling kerbside in most places the needis not so great.

No, went to M&S in Ealing today but the box was gone! Most people are obviously quicker at sorting out their Christmas cards than I am... it's one of those jobs (checking for messages, new addresses, etc) that I always put off.I've put the cards away with the Christmas decorations to be disposed of next year! I suppose I could just put them in the ordinary recycling, but am determined they should go in the appropriate charity collection.

With a  hole punch scissors and ribbon you could have made some very up market or original gift tags in the time you have spent already. Do you know any children who could be delgated with the job?

No need of gift tags - various charities send me too many every year! No, cards are now out of sight/out of mind - until next December...
