parking

Does anyone out there know what can be done about someone who takes up two spaces to park their vehicle. I constantly find that I am unable to park my car outside my home because my neighbour thinks their car deserves two spaces although only owning 1 permit.  I am forced to overhang on my other neighbour's shared driveway which I really do not like doing, as I am a considerate neighbour.Should I call the council when this happens, would they be able to issue the offending vehicle with a fine.  What is the law on inconsiderate drivers?

"Should I call the council when this happens, would they be able to issue the offending vehicle with a fine."It depends ...Since you say the offending driver has a permit, I assume you're in a CPZ.  Are the parking bays divided into one-vehicle spaces or are they continuous undivided bays?  What is across the driveway that you share with your neighbour? Is it a yellow line or does the bay run across the driveway entrance?What can be done about the problem depends on the answers to those questions.  Have you tried talking to the driver or leaving a polite note on his car?  In any case nobody has a right to be able to park directly outside their home, permit or no permit.

Presuming that you are in a cpz I suspect you describe 'inconsiderate parking' ie too much space left between the vehicle in front or behind. This could be by choice or ignorance. My car has parking sensors, front and rear which if I agreed with would mean I occupied a space at least 1.5 times what I needed. I often have to reposition the car to avoid excessive space. Just a thought?

I had same problem and put a note on the offending car asking could they please either move their car forward or backwards so they weren't taking up two spaces. Important to add a smiley face to the note (research shows you are more likely to get positive result doing this), and no problems since.
