TV reception (or lack of it)

Anyone else had a drop off in telly reception? We did around Xmas and i thought it must be my aerial but a colleague who lives off the Vale had the same thing. Half the channels dont get enough reception to work although some work fine. I dont want to spend money getting a tv company round if its a transmitter problem so any info gratefully received! thanks

Not long till digital switchover in London - at last!

Fibre optic cables were being installed in Goldsmith Road earlier in the week - east side - see the markings on the pavement (why do they do this and not clean it off?).The installers said they were working their way up the hill.

No planned work on the Crystal Palace transmitter (where most of London gets its signal from) is scheduled at the moment that would affect DTT transmissions according to the BBC and Digital UK.Digital switchover work to prepare the transmitter for the switch which is due to take place in April 2012 began back in July last year. this involved replacing some of the broadcast equipment on the mast and switching transmissions to reserve antennas. As with other switchover areas there is likely to be further work on the transmitter in the lead up to April 2012. There were recent reports (end of January) of an interruption to the Freeview HD multiplex of channels from Crystal Palace, don't know if this is related to other people's problems though as you will only see these HD channels in your line-up if you have Freeview HD equipment. Try performing a channel rescan (during fine weather if you can as this may also identify if it is your aerial at fault). If your equipment tells you it has picked up around 103 channels then you should be fine. If after doing this you think you are still having problems I will come back to you with a list of channels to try then we can work out which multiplexes you may be having problems with receiving.

Rather like the first cuckoo of spring, I heard the first digital switchover trail for London yesterday - exhorting the disabled and over 75s to prepare and be aware there is free help.Actually digital penetration is so high now that it's going better than we could possibly have predicted.
