It always makes me laugh that there is a bookie's called 'DONE'. Yep, you probably have been.I was brought up not to gamble (my dad would never even buy a raffle ticket, but would just give the charity the money as a donation instead.)However, I have since got to know people who keep it in control - for instance, my father-in-law, who spends hours every night poring over his Racing Post, and then puts on one small bet of £1 a day. He never goes above this limit, he budgets for it, and he gets hours of pleasure from the planning that goes with it. He doesn't win much, mind!Compared with my theatre/cinema/restaurant visits, his little hobby is inexpensive, and brings him a lot of enjoyment. I agree that gambling can be addictive and dangerous (as can drink) but it IS possible to do so moderately.It is a shame that there are so many bookies in one area, and I'm sure there are many people who spend money they can't afford there. But not everyone is spending the kids' clothes money!
