A good word for Morrisons

It isn’t Waitrose, to the distress of many of this parish (yours truly included), but it can sometimes surprise.I’ve been looking for Dab. Dab is a flat fish, a la sole or plaice, much caught around Britain but thrown back into the sea, invariably dead, because there’s no market for it. This scandalous waste was highlighted on Channel 4 recently by Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall. I couldn’t find dab in the usual haunts, not in Ealing, not even Marylebone High Street. But I popped into Morrisons yesterday and there was lots of it. Under £6 per kg (about £2.60 per lb in proper money), a bargain and it taste good.

Their fish is really good - as is their bread - and a very wide range of spices etc such as pickled lemons. But their thieves are pretty assiduous too and alcohol prices irresponsibly low.

Yes Sarah, I agree about their thieves.I had my purse snatched a couple of years ago--from my bag which was zipped up!

I happened to me about nine months ago but what really riled me was the tills manager who, when I said in astonishment "my purse has been stolen" responded instantly with" well, what do you expect me to do about it?" which wasn't wholly helpful or supportive - and i will always remember - so counter-productive too.

Purses get stolen anywhere - I've had mine stolen from my bag in Sainsbury's in la-de-dah Chiswick.  Morrisons is great for fish, but for fresh veg, the veg stall at the market is better!

They do of course - but the police ackowledge it to be a local hotspot - convenient really for both the copshop and the community police office!

There are many, they lurk and in my experience are useless when something happens - ie theft of said purse - because they a) have little English b)no powers of communication and c) no assertiveness nor initiative.But they are definitely there.

We have a small yet perfectly formed Morrison's in Brentford.It used to be a Gateway,degenerated into a Sellafield,sorry Somerfield,then rose from the ashes as a very good local rival to Tesco,'though of course they are masters of the supermarket sq.yardage universe and Morrison's the'plucky Brit'by comparison.The staff at Morrison's,possibly because the store isn't massive are always polite,cheerful and helpful to customers.Left my phone (a modern nightmare) in there recently and I called them when I got home after I realsed about a hour later and a member of staff had found it and kept it safe.Absolutely refused to accept the reward I offered because I am snookered without it.

Yes, there is always security around whenever I go to Morrisons, and yes usually in the booze isle, texting on his mobile. Today however, he ventured out to the crisp section to chat some girl up.

i had to ask three different staff if they had 'liquid stock' beef or chicken.. to receive blank looks! finally got a guy who asked me what I wanted it for!! before he would look for it.. or direct me to the correct aisle,  perhaps fewer guards more educating the staff to what they sell there and where it is!! great fish tho'

Try asking the staff in Boots if they have "soap flakes" It's a Boots brand so you would have think they might have heard of it...the girl there neither understood the concept/any English nor did she speak the lingo noticeably. You would have thought that quite important for a shop assistant in a national chain.

Asked a youngster in Homebase where the steel wool was.He nearly burst out laughing until I found some and told him it was from an iron sheep.
