Controlled Parking Zones

I have just noticed in the local Leader newspaper that there are proposals to introduce parking places for residents and visitors for many roads off the Horn Lane in Acton amongst other proposals.When I rang Mouchel(council agents) to ask if they were going to send a mail out informing residents living on the roads affected by these proposals. I was told they would not be and have only put notices in the newspapers and on lamp posts. I find this astonishing, if I didn't have the newspaper I wouldn't of known.

There was a consultation done at the end of 2009/beginning 2010 where the majority of local residents voted to have parking zones in the area.The scheme was confirmed to go ahead in March 2010 so it's only taken them a year to get round to doing anything!

I didn't know either Ana until a few weeks ago when I came across it on the forum. It is utterly bizarre that we were never informed of the results of the last consultation. A lot of people in the affected area know nothing about it. The officers at Ealing Council just seem to treat local people with utter contempt.

The June 2009 Friars Green cpz consultation results were available on Ealing Council's web site and announced at a well attended Ward Forum last February. Also, in the recent public consultation paper that was sent out by the council asking for comments on the proposed improvements to Horn Lane Shopping Parade, it said that any parking changes would be implemented as part of the Friars Green cpz in February (although it didn't specify a year!). I can't believe the council have taken SO long to implement this but if, like me, you live in a road where vans and cars not belonging to residents can be left for weeks (in some cases months) because we are one of the few roads in the area without cpz, maybe you'd appreciate why some people welcome the restrictions. If you’re someone who is new to the area, then I can understand your frustration at only finding out about this by chance.

I think I must of missed the boat on this one.I do remember some time ago being asked for opinions on resident parking, which I replied to, but thought I read somewhere the feedback was no. This was why I was surprised by this recent notice.Clearly not.

According to the council, the delay was because they were originally going to re-model the roads around the little bit of grass on Friary Road (Friars Green?!)and make it more like a roundabout but then decided not to.I'm all for it. Am glad it's finally getting started.

I have received a new consultation document from Ealing Council. It covers Horn Lane from Market Place northwards and is so confusing I cannot make head nor tail of the plans, although they do include CPZ areas, double yellow lines, remodelling of junctions, removal of the cycle path, etc. It just looks like an awful lot of money to be spending on little actual benefit when services are being cut for those in need.

Yipee. I for one am very excited about (hopefully) getting a CPZ on our part of Horn Lane - it's such a nightmare to park anywhere near my house during the week in the days, as I'm not eligible for a permit on the surrounding roads - it's so hard find somewhere near to park as all the spaces are filled so quickly with (usually) white vans or rubbish clearance vans etc. Never bothered me so much before but with a small child it's much harder.Just spoke with a very helpful person in the Highways Management Dept of Ealing Council who talked me through the plans. I wouldn't have known anything about it if it hadn't been flagged up on this website though....

Glad to hear that others recognise the parking of commercial vehicles on our residential streets causes problems.But they can of course apply for parking permits, despite being longer, taller and wider than cars.In the 'old' days such vehicles were parked at the commercial place of work, but it is cheaper for companies to let their workers take them home with them and park free of charge. Unless of course the 'owners' of the vehicles are self-employed - and I suspect some 'sharing' of white vans is going on amongst 'owners' and 'workers'.

I can't believe that people are supportive of this scheme, there is no problem with the parking in this area (except at night when the scheme will not be operating). This will simply mean that we will have to pay £100 to park in the streets and also pay for anyone who comes to visit in their car. This is a money-raising racket by the Council who are seeking to claw back money from the savage cuts by central government. The Ealing Council rates for residents' parking permits and visitors has just soared (ask anyone who lives in Ealing). If you do not support this scheme, please write to the council before the 25th February protesting against this scheme.

if you elect to have one hour in the morning and another in the evening, it is much less than £100 per year..I think ours is £40 per car.

Yes the zone will have one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon 10-11 and 4-5 I believe,therefore the charge will be £40. As the last remaining pocket of free parking in Acton it is well worth it to allow me to park near my house and get rid of the vans blocking the light from our windows all day long.

Have we all forgotten about 'global warming', we should be trying to reduce the volume of petrol driven vehicles driving around our residential streets. If CPZ's contribute to that aim - then surely if you value the quality of the air you breathe you must be for them. And they do - see the volume of vehicles who park in Goldsmith Avenue (a CPZ) and who park in Grafton Road (not a CPZ).

Surely it's not the owning of the cars that is the problem - or having them parked for very long periods if global warming is your concern. It's the actual driving around which may or may not be affected by having a CPZ.Actually we should all want masses of parking and very little movement - but somehow we don't.

What should be the ideal is NO parking, NO cars and NO movement in central London except for non-polluting vehicles. Without clean air we will not have a planet upon which to live, let alone drive around.

On a slight tangent ...Pollution is the by product of the real reason for global warming - too many people!Telling people not to drive their cars will of course help local pollution but won't make a jot of difference to the global problem. The lack of natural resources (food and fuel) will see us off a long time before anything else.The planet will look after itself and will be here long after we've gone. Unless we do something about population at some point the Earth will force us to face the problem. There's already a global food shortage and people are starving in their millions. I think we should be taking the hint! :-)

The concern is that it will rise and once we have this scheme, we will be at the mercy of a cash-strapped council. There is no problem with parking in my road. This is just crazy.

Who is to say that the white vans are not residents? This will not stop white vans, people who are working at residents' houses will simply get a permit from the resident (which they have paid extra for). Vans will still be left overnight because it does not apply at this time.

CPZs will exacerbate global warming as people drive round and round looking for somewhere to park. It will not stop or decrease traffic.

There isn't a problem on our street during the day but unfortunately the introduction of a scheme in neighbouring streets will create a knock-on effect so I am resigned to the CPZ introduction.However, what would make even more sense would be to introduce a restriction on commercial vehicles parking overnight to stop the large number of vans that litter the streets.
