Not before September they seem to be saying - I wonder if the army and/or the muslim brotherhood will still be in check by then

He might have gone but his regime is still very much in place and will be reluctant to concede power and wealth. However you have to admire the power of social networking and the bravery/persistance of the protesters. I do hope it is not a false dawn........

I am sure elections will be well before September.  Before he resigned he said he would not stand again at the Sept elections.  Has there been an announcement since Mubarek resigned that electiosn will be in Sept,  if so I find that extraordinary?

Do not underestimate the ongoing power of the army in Egyptian society would be my belief - from Nasser to date they have always has a major presence. One hopes for early elections before violence starts and civilians not bound to the prior regime get into power sharing.My deeper fear is it has many of the characteristics of the ongoing problems in Pakistan - powerful army strongly supported by USA arms; militant muslim groups (violently suppressed to date) and a powerful secret service who may prove adept at manipulating political and religious elements.

I should think it would be huge - but unfortunately not including the populace demonstrating to overthrow Netanyahu - who was elected in a moment of madness
