I went to see the consultation and one problem we discovered was that the rooms that they hoped would cater for the various community groups would not be able to accommodate a stage. When it was pointed out that local schools and performance groups needed a stage, the project manager said they will have to use Ealing Town Hall. He knew nothing about the permanent martial arts class based in Acton Pools or where they would be placed in the new site, and also had no plans for a sprung floor studio which the priory centre has. My other issue is that too much emphasis is being placed on the gym space, Acton has plenty of gyms, and I imagine those Actonians who love state of the art exercise facilities will probably stay with Virgin or The Park Club. I personally, would rather see more space for the current crop of community groups, a bigger library, less residential and a new primary school. I have been told that parents at Derwentwater have been informed that the school is being considered for four form entry which I imagine is to pave the way for the priory centre to be sold and hence demolished. The problem is of course if you turn this site into more housing, the need for more school spaces will still be an issue! The library building will go, and they hope it will become a restaurant. My moneys on a betting shop!!!
