Dear Mr Crumpton;We have made huge gains in terms of the street drinkers. A year ago the area was regularly attended daily by 20+ drinkers many of which were causing anti social behaviour and committing low level crime. We have since reduced this considerably, and when we are working cleared the area of them altogether. Two of the ring leaders have been issued with ASBO's banning them from attending W3 area. The feedback we have received from local businesses and community leaders has been very positive. Granted there will be occasions when a handful of individuals will return and this is likely to be when the team is on rest days and the response teams unable to allocate time to the issue due to the amount of calls they are dealing with. Morrison’s is an issue; apparently staff have informed certain homeless drinkers that they are welcome to hang around the location (as long as they do not beg). I expressed my displeasure to this and the fact it goes against all the work we have been conducting. A meeting has been booked with management to discuss and advise. If these individuals are in the entrance of Morrison’s please feel free to tell staff/security and they should be moved on. Regards Mark
