Burglary in Friary Road

We were sadly burgled today.  The burglers got in by kicking the bottom of our front door to pieces.  It was the original door to our home, 1930's built, and most of the doors in our street and the street around are the same as ours so please be aware.  Both sets of locks held!!We have just been out to buy a new front door and need a carpenter now to fit it.  We will of course look through the local directory etc. but would welcome any recommendations and of course the job is urgent.Many thanks.

Oh Maria how awful for you.  I hope they did not take too much.  You would think someone would have noticed them doing that level of damage.

The view of the Crime Prevention Officer would be appreciated.  How can this be avoided?

One of the team will attend to offer security advice today. I am posting this prior to the visit and only going on the info present, it appears locks were not the issue in this case. The key to crime prevention is to make yourself less of a victim. I would recommend a house alarm or at the very least a 'dummy' alarm box (£15 and available at TESCO, B&Q etc) attached to high visible areas of the house (front and back). This can be supplemented with warning stickers attached to windows and doors if you wish.  Your local Police teams are happy to provide crime prevention inputs. Mark - one of your team did indeed get in touch yesterday and paid me a visit.  He offered advice and gave me some marker pens.  We are having a new front door fitted today and REAL alarms being fitted tomorrow. I think the police get a lot of bad press at times so I think it important to give credit where it is due.  Within a short time of the postman 'phoning the police our home was being made secure and forensics arrived at the same time as me.  There have been many follow up calls from the police and the support has been great.  Thank you all very much.  I hope you get the 'bad guys'!

So sorry to hear this, Maria.  I live nearby.  I know the postman you mean.....he's  a diamond.  He knows so much about the area and who lives where.  Great asset to our neighbourhood.  I wish you well for a burglar-less future.
