Drugs claim another victim?

Dreadful news about the 60 year old academic in the recent drugs case.He must have felt so awful - both about the girl who died and what it has done to his and his family's life.Nearly a really tragic outcome.I do hope it really is just two broken legs.

I am with you on this. Complete tragedy. Hope he gets better and is found not to have been personally responsible for those drugs.

I find this (presumed) suicide attempt interesting. If we imagine that the man tried to kill himself because he felt guilty about what happened, then why do it by jumping off a bridge onto the North Circular, possibly transferring guilt for a death to some poor innocent driver?

Might be better to reserve judgment until we have a clearer idea of the facts and motives.A person deciding to jump off a road bridge may not be in the best state of mind.

Fred is right, best not to judge anything at this stage, apart from how sad the whole thing is. Lessons may be learned in the longer term. The Mail (and I guess other tabloids) have been horrible in their coverage and best to ignore.

Bizarre fact:Did you know that if you suffer an injury because someone tries to kill themselves all over you - say they jump from a bridge, you run over them, they die (or not) and y ou suffer disabling stress or whiplash or whatever, that youcannot get criminal injuries compensation UNLESS you are a train driver and someone throws themselves in front of your train (tube included, buses not!)

"  cannot get criminal injuries compensation UNLESS you are a train driver  . . . . . "Imagine yourself as a train driver, pulling into crowded station platforms every day at 30/40 mph. I saw a documentary about this very subject many years ago. It confirmed what I always suspected. Some train drivers are so traumatised, they never go back to driving trains. They referred to these incidences as a 'one under'.Apart from freak accidents, motorists still have the confidence of knowing they might be able to brake sharply, swerve, etc. Not so for a train driver.

I'm not saying train drivers shouldn't be compensated - in my compensation appeals tribunal days we sometimes saw guys who had had two or three such incidents and were really traumatised.But it seemed to me daft that other drivers were banned for awards.
