JIG - the Irish dance Movie
Went to see Sue Bourne's latest documentary - and her first for cinema release this afternoon and enjoyed it - though it's about an irish dance competition which might seem both pointless and relentless. Sensibly, all the music when no-one was actually dancing, wasn't jigs.It's a wholly bizarre world and the film is gripping about it: the wigs the strange frocks and the even stranger mothers.I would have liked to see a really bad contestants so as to see how good the ones we are shown are - Sue concentrates on the serious competitors who win with over a thousand points over three rounds.But how bad are the ones who score only 200 and would teh rest of us be able to tell the difference?The kids are hugely engaging and forthcoming and rather sweet.Anyhow it only has ad hoc dates - the next being Tuesday afternoon at Shepherds Bush Vue or early evening at the Lexi (which is delightful) in Kensal Rise - two stops on the overground.
