Friars Green CPZ

It has finally arrived!  A letter has just popped through our letterbox stating that work will start on 1 June and be 'substantially' finished by 4 July from whence we can pay for the priviledge of parking outside our house.I for one am delighted as am fed up with the communters and white vans that clog up our road, often causing poor visibility and making passing another vehicle nigh impossible in places.  I think some passing bays wouldn't go amiss either.Can't wait!

Is there a gap bewteen yours and zone K?We have heard nothing yet about our reconsultation - maybe because the councillors across four wards have to decide - sounds like a recipe for inertia!

I am no expert on K but there is some overlap.  It is quite small as it goes partly into your road to the junction with Baldwyn Gdns; and includes all roads this side of the Overland railway on St Dunstans Ave from Friary Road down to where it joins Eastbourne Gardens.  West of Horn Lane it seems to take in the first few metres of all roads between Acton main line to the north and Highlands Ave to the south cutting a swathe through Cumberland Ave, Maldon Road and Cumberland Rd.

It takes over a month to paint white lines on the roads?! Did they include an application form for the permits or will that come after they've put the lines in?I'm asking because I'm on Western Avenue between St Dunstan's and Friary Road and they've promised we can have permits (they removed all our parking in the re-design) so I need to ensure we don't get forgotten about (which is what usually happens!).

I really hope parts of Horn Lane (my road) will also be included in the CPZ or else we'll actually be worse off (which is really saying something)! We've never received any information about the plans, or had any updates... I have phoned up the council a few times this year about the plans - but nothing was decided at that point.

Part of Horn Lane is definitely in it - both sides from Summerlands Av to Acton main line stopping on the railway bridge - any good for you?

Does anyone know what hours the CPZ will operate - all day, or just an hour in the morning and afternoon? We got the letter too, but it didn't specify.

One hour in the morning (10-11 I think), one in the afternoon (4-5). The CPZ will cover all roads both sides of Horn Lane that are not currently in a CPZ; nowhere between the Uxbridge Rd and A40 in Acton will be CPZ-less. Acacia Rd and I think Nemoure Rd will join Zone K1.

Does anyone know where there is a detailed breakdown of the changes for this CPZ? There was a traffic order published around Feb that included a number of changes to zone K and K1. Are these being implemented as per the traffic orders or have they changed? We were listed as moving officially into zone K1 (or K) but received the Friars Green CPZ notice and Ealing typically notifies those within the zone only - not those next to it.I have searched the Ealing website but it doesn't worry about minor things like publishing traffic/parking changes.

Again, Vlod Barchuk comes to the fore with information and he doesn't even live in these streets.  Thanks Vlod.  Pity we don't get the same input from current Councillors for Acton Central.  Gary Malcolm is also great at inputting on this forum, thanks Gary too.If Vlod decides to run for Councillor again, I sincerely hope those in Acton Central vote him back in.  We're poorer without him.

Dear Vold,Can you confirm that all the roads either side of Horn Lane are to be included in either the new or existing zones please?Highways department say no as this has been blocked by all three councillors on the west side of Horn Lane.They are not replying to any e mails.ThanksDavid

Whilst I was a councillor the Cabinet made the decision that meant all public roads either side of Horn Lane would be in a CPZ, mostly the new one. Ward councillors cannot veto this decision. Acton Central ward covers both the east and west side of Horn Lane, so I don't understand your second sentence. I'm mystified as to why implementation of this CPZ is taking so long - the decision to go ahead was made in late 2009.

Dear Vold,First of all many thanks for the reply.I rang highways some weeks back to ask what was going on and was told that the roads to the west of Horn Lane were being left out of the cpz on the councillers direction.I dont know how these things work but good progress is being made in marking the cpz to the east but we have heard nothing which seems to back up what I was told.Regards,David

Understand July, following road markings completion residents will receive an info pack with details on how to apply for parking permit, etc.

If that's what they're going to do then, notwithstanding the constitutional niceties, it’s an incredibly stupid and short sighted decision. Traffic will be displaced to the non CPZ area resulting in more residents demanding a CPZ and another consultation. That’s why the decision was made to put the whole area into a CPZ; it has to be all or nothing else the problem just is moved around.
