Following on from my earlier post today I have since spoken directly with Andrew Vaughn the planning officer who explained that the original intended purpose of the application had been to provide a very vulnerable part of the community with sheltered housing, I gathered from our conversation that this group would have been battered wives. However, it seems that this option will have to be shelved due to all the misguided public attention, as it is no good having a safe house for women when everyone knows about it.To my mind, even if the writer of the flier I received had been remotely correct with any one of the vulnerable groups they had mentioned, it would be perfectly appropriate for Ealing Council and indeed the whole of the local community to support a program of rehabilitation for any vulnerable group. Any one of these issues could and will be addressed by either someone we know or even one of our own family at some point in our lives and I hope that if this time every comes to any one of us that there will be services in place and a good community in place to help and support the rehabilitation of that person. We cannot shut our eyes to these matters and I hope that anyone who receives one of these fliers just gives a moments thought to any one of these victims of our society, of which we are all party to.In particular do not put Paedophiles, Heroin Addicts, Prostitutes, Mentally ill and H.I.V infected individuals all in the same group. This truly is a serious error of judgment to the person who wrote this flier and I for one am totally disgusted.
