192.com

I went online and created my account with 192.com and purchased 6 credits (the smallest amount you can buy) at a cost of £9.95 plus VAT.  I was looking for an address and a telephone number and know the street the person lives in but not the number.  Easy, one would have thought.  No!  For some reason not clear to me now or when I purchased the credits, I'm not allowed to see the address or the number, even though I can see the name!What an appalling waste of money.  Overpriced, underperforming.  Extortion.  I have complained via the website and got a snotty, to the point 2 line email back saying "we can't find your account".  Great.  I emailed back and said "try harder" and forwarded my receipt to them.  Now waiting.Don't use them.  Shocking waste of money and little if any service.

If a person's phone number is in the BT directory, then you can access it for free in a number of ways, including 192.com.  Just put in a surname and a town or postcode area (like W3), and 192.com will give you a list of names, addresses and phone numbers.  If you were unable to get the number, it's likely that the person is ex-directory, in which case you won't be able to get the phone number from anyone.

BT is free for the first ten enquiries a day online certainly and maybe by phone - can't remember....which is poor as I used to regulate it when they first liberalised DQ services/
