What do you think of betting shops?

You have to laugh. After allowing numerous betting shops to open littering Acton High Street, Ealing Council would like to know what we think about them. Hmmm. A bit late. Horse. Stable. Door.

Put it this way if you are a gambler, take away jumkie and an acholic you do well in acton, This is what happens when the council dont listen to the public, places like these do not bring in revenue to the area. I dont know anyone who spent the £50 we got in acton I for one didnt.

They were never a problem in the past. Is it because they worry what the local muslim community thinks, what with the recently opened mosques, Arabic restaurants etc that have attracted many of these people to the area who see gambling as taboo?

I'm not aware of any protests from the local mosques - no evidence of people in burkhas picketing the Tote or suchlike.An imbalanced High Street doesnt really work but does it matter whether there are too many betting shops in the way it does if there are too many pound shops or phone shops...or is there something beyond that?Do they bring violence or disorder, drunkeness or thievery? I've not seen any evidence of that either: they mostly look muted and slightly sad. I am very against "ambient gambling" ie slot machines in chip shops and taxi offices and motorway service stations where the young can use them with inpunity and the rest of us cant really avoid it.But if consenting adults want to go into a betting shop, and make an informed decision to place a bet or use a slot machine, is it any or my/our business? Presumably any given market can only support so many of them before the competition makes them unproftable. Do we need any other intervention?

There are only 2 Mosque in Acton - one that has been there since the 1980s and the other one in 2005 -Are there any others in Acton? Arabic Restaurants?? Apart from the Chicken Royal where the main chap speaks arabic which other one is there? If we are talking about the Somlian places, there has only been one opened up on Horn Lane last year. Having been once to Chicken Royal and only last week to the Somlian cafe on church road they are used by people of different races too - the somalian cafe even had a white couple there visiting whilst i was there.As for the people being drunk i see this regularly around the top of Church Road/ high Street, getting into fist fights, dealing in drugs which saddly is corners of 2 betting shops...

There's no evidence that the consultation is the result of Muslim sensibilities - at least not in Acton where, as Abdul says, there are few stresses.And the consultation itself is pragmatic - asks for experience of anti-social behaviour etc around betting shops.It reads as though it is asking people to respond against betting shops and in favour of tighter regulation.

Ah yes from what i see he's a big ugly skin-headed, goose steppin' BNP lovin' thug with tattoos and on the dole that wants all non-white, non blue-eyed and blonde people out of Britain. Actually mate, I'm a hardworking businessman that voted Tory (sorry i did now) that wants a real cap on immigration and believe that my own country should come first, not others.
