Acton Central Policing

afternoon all,Some of you may be aware that the residents and business owners have a regular meeting with the local police under the auspice of a "ward panel".At these meetings, the local police update us on developments in the area (Acton Central) and work with us on deciding upon direction (i.e. where to focus resource - on drugs/drinking or car crime etc).I'm delighted to announce that the Acton Central ward has recently been highlighted as being the most productive safer neighbourhood team within the Ealing borough.Below I've listed some of the stand out achievements, there are too many to detail here, however, I've picked out some interesting ones:1. Since the last ward forum we have set in place two dispersal zones Friary Park estate and the town centre area; allowing us to ban those in a group causing anti social acts for a 24 hour period and arresting if breached. Three arrests have been made to date all sent to court for punishment.2. Discovered and closed a drugs Factory on Birkbeck Avenue.3. Visited and in the process of closing two brothels. One has since been confirmed as closed and the other is in the process of closure through the Civil courts.4. The team have placed three problem persons on ASBO’s. A persistent beggar has since left the area. In addition, various initiatives are underway, such as:1. Street a week initiative - we aim to have visited every street in the ward by the end of the year, providing all with our contact details and when available providing crime prevention advice. 2. Completing follow up visits to all Burglary victims. 3. Delivering crime prevention packs to motor vehicle crime victims. 4. Identifying vulnerable addresses whilst on patrol and informing residents.Clearly there is still much to do in our ward, though I think the above demonstrates the progress being made.Please join me in congratulating Sergeant Mark Pullen and his team for their efforts, and in being recognised as best in class within the whole borough.Carl

I quite agree that they have done a tremendous job so far. I certainly feel more comfortable walking down Churchfield Road, not having to witness drug dealing in broad daylight and not bumping into the previous drunks/ beggars outside the betting shop.In all it has been a big turnaround since Mark Pullen has taken on his post and I think he is a great team leader who obviously inspires his colleagues to give their best.A big thank you to the whole police team!

I agree it has got a lot better - largely I am sure thanks to Mark and his team so I hope we keep as many of them as possible for as long as possible.But the response police have done well by us too in the last month: we were woken at 0300 by a dustbin falling over, husbnad looked out and saw someone checking out cars. as he watched this guy broke in to a car opposite ...we called 999 (pursuit in pajamas seeming unfeasible) and talked the operator through what we were seeing...as the thief finished stealing the sat nav, we told them he was walking up the road and blow me, the police came and got him. We had done statements by 0400, dogs and forensics were done by 0500. We were called two days later about an identity parade and then contaced only about a week later to say the thief had pleaded guilty and would be sentenced last Friday - dunno what he got...but the whole process was highly efficient and took less than three weeks. And it was my first ever police 999 call!
