non  police attendance!

At about 12:35 AM I dialed 101 to report a neighbours burglar alarm had gone off, knowing that my neighbours were out.  I informed whoever I was speaking too, that there had been a previous burglary and that I had challenged a suspicious person loitering on the premises a couple of months ago, who claimed to be looking for this address, as he knew the people.  This I knew to be a lie as it was 3:30 AM and, I knew my neighbours were otherwise engaged.  I was even given a fake name for my neighbours (Caught In The Act.)Getting back to subject, after waiting around for 45 minutes, did the police attend a potential burglary in progress? did they heck.If the police don't attend now, what will happen when the cut-backs on police and pcso numbers happens?

We had the opposite reaction recently - we woke at 0300 to find someone breaking into cars, dialled 999 and the police had attended and caught the perpetrator within minutes...and taken statements, deployed forensics and dogs within the hour. And he pleaded guilty - and they let us know.So not all doom.

As I understand it, 101 is a non-emergency number, as in, if something has previously happened and you are reporting afterwards, someone will come around to take details or statements, but in this case where there is possibly a crime actually taking place you should still call 999 for an immediate response.
