Munira - I think the main problem is that people don't realise the expense of keeping an animal. A lot of people look at a pretty little kitten or puppy, buy it, and don't realise that it eats, needs vaccinations, various bits of equipment, vet visits, cattery or kennel fees, insurance etc etc. At the last count I reckoned it would cost something like £600 per annum to keep a cat. Also, don't forget that many people don't bother to get their animals neutered, so adding to the population. Homing organisations will always make sure that if potential owners are living in rented accommodation their lease, or landlord, will allow pets. This saves a lot of trouble for owners and pets.
