Day trip to the coast

With such amazing weather (well, sunny and hot) I thought it might be nice to drive to the coast for the day. There's nothing like the sounds and smells of the seaside. But I don't want to go somewhere that's going to be heaving with people. Somewhere pretty. Any ideas?

Exactly what everyone wants. Perhaps you might like the private beach at Sandwich, between the golf course and the sea, but the single access road gets very crowded when there is a golfing event. There is a nature reserve at the eastern end nearer to the river estuary.

West Wittering is a vast beach and very pretty and the sea itself is relatively warm. Bosham is pretty but no beach. Hengistbury Head, near Christchurch is also lovely.

I was about to suggest W Wittering too! For a sandy beach it's not too bad a drive from Acton.

Today not a good day - but a bit of a relief. I am so wet after a dash down churchfield road that I literally drip. At least its not sweltering though.There'll be other days.
