Ice Cream Vans

There are now two ice cream vans around the area. One plays the usual ice cream van tune. The other plays a very jolly catchy tune which is a fast version of something, but what is it? Its driving me mad.

There is a sandwich van that's doing the rounds too. It plays the theme tune to 'The Sting'. Starts around 8:30am and then 3 times a day after that....grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think it's called 'The Liberty Bell' I hear it most days around 4.30 while I am stuck in the office! Wish they would deliver down here! ;)

Are they parking in CPZ areas? - if yes, call parking and they can be issued with a parking ticket - that will see them off !!

Sarah, I so agree!The sound of the ice-cream van is the quintessential one of the English summer - does anyone else have them?And though I havnt bought from one in years, they always make my heart lift - as effective of a bygone era as ever the smell of madeleines!

Just saw the Monty Python one in our street. It's very odd...not at all like a conventional ice-cream van - more like one of those dormobile types that Aussie travellers use.It stopped but nobody bought one.

Possibly because the other one came round first. Ice cream wars can get quite nasty.

Or because there are no ice-cream buying infants around in our road at the moment..haven't seen the otehr one at all.You're right though - didn't they turn particularly nasty in Glasgow a while back?

I was visiting in Cumberland Park this afternoon and heard the Monty Python one: I've never heard a tune played so fast! Icecream van tunes should be alluring and inviting: I would run in the opposite direction from this manic one!
