We never had a problem with mice until we had building work done and were open to the elements somewhat. We tried all sorts and it worked for a little while, or so we believed. Then when they returned (I suppose not helped by our then toddler who was dropping food all over the place) we got a ginger tom who is just adorable and we've not seen a mouse since. Problem is, he likes the birds too, which is very distasteful to us as we love feathered friends. We have a bell around his neck, but he manages to get into nests sometimes. He's absolutely fine with the hens we've had though but he's got a taste for pigeons, 'fraid to say.If you're going to get a cat, take advice from Acton Pet Shop. The lovely ladies there gave us good advice.....went something like this - you can't beat a tom for catching mice nor a ginger tom which is even better. Female cats can be lazy sometimes and not as affectionate as a tom in the main. Something along those lines and I have to say they were bang on with this cat.
