Virgin Broadband - don't bother

If you're thinking of taking Virgin Broadband, don't bother.  They've had problems with their server all year, resulting in snail-like broadband connections which they blame on over-use in the area and which "our engineers are working on" but "it may take months to resolve".  Oh, and if you're already a Virgin customer, I managed to get a decent credit on my account which isn't really much help with getting their rubbish service working, but it does sweeten the pill a bit.  Given they advertise themselves as fastest broadband supplier, I think the ASA should be informed!

We swapped from BT broadband to Virgin and have found them to be excellent, particularly compared to BT where you had to reset the home hub every time you wanted to go on line because the connection kept dropping off. We had a problem a couple of weeks ago with not being able to connect, virgin sent out an engineer, he ascertained it was a network problem because a lady in the street was having the same issues. He reported it and said it was being worked on and it should be back to normal in a day or too, which it was. Hopefully it'll stay that way. Funny how all these providers suck you in with talk of super fast fibre optic technology and then when it goes wrong the reason for us was 'noise on the line', the internet equivalent of the wrong kind of snow! I hope they sort you out soon Anne.

Having seen the way Virgin leave the cable connection boxes open I would not want to change to Virgin! On several occasions I have called them on the number that is displayed inside the box, and given them the box number and location, but they still remain open. I guess this doesn't affect the broadband connection, but may well cause 'noise on the line'?We use globalnet/madasafish (trading name of Plusnet)for our broadband. Have the odd problem, but generally very happy with them - have been with them for many years.(I do have a Virgin mobile phone, and at times I wish I didn't as the signal dips in and out so much. Just got to wait till my contract ends...!)

I've been with Virgin for over 10 years, and have never experienced any lasting problems. Support has always been excellent on the few occasions I've needed it - the only inefficient department seems to be accounts, who kept telling me I hadn't paid when I had!

Have had Virgin TV for years and took phone and Broadband about two months ago. I'm pleased with the whole set-up and the broadband is much faster and less prone to problems than the old one.Whatever provider you talk about, there will always be some people who've been unlucky with their service.

I've been with Virgin for the internet for years.  They have always been good when there has been a problem and because of that and the awful reports there seem to be about all providers I have stayed with them.

I switched to Virgin last week and am very happy so far. I have TV (the new Tivo box which is great), phone and broadband.

miles better than BT for us but it does depend how close you are to one of the areas hubs as to what speed you get. And its not necessarily the roadbuilders fault if there's a traffic jam

And if you have the phone, you don't have to pay for tech support, which is also quite quick to answer. I don't think my old broadband provider answered the phone at all and if they did it cost me 60p a minute.

We have been with Virgin for many years - any problems sorted out quickly! Ringing them on the Virgin telephone line is free!

Well, it sounds like the talk about problems in my area may be nonsense if everybody else is trouble-free.  I've been monitoring the speed almost daily (using the free broadband speed checking sites) and it's been very bad.  If anyone who said they were not having problems lives near Highlands Avenue/Summerlands Avenue, could they let me know.  If that's the case, then it must be my connection and NOT an area problem.  Pleae let me know.

There was a problem the very first weekend I had it when I was getting the speed of a dial-up line but this was fixed quite quickly. That must have been the last weekend in June. Good service ever since in Gunnersbury Park area.
