London Mela

Well, it's the London Mela tomorrow - usually good for a little wonder around on a nice sunny afternoon!In the past, access to the residential roads in the area has been controlled and residents issued with passes so they can carry on as normal if necessary. This year, no passes and no sign of any control. Does anyone know what the plan is here?If there's no traffic control, I know our small road will, at best be gridlocked and I will not be able to get in or out! This won't make me very happy!

I also noted the absence of residents' passes this year, Stephen, and, as I type, there's no sign of the usual man blocking the entrance to the small residential road opposite. Maybe they'll turn up later but I have my doubts.I fear it'll be back to the free-for-all of a few years ago that used to result in massive traffic jams. Not sure what the Council were thinking this year.

Well, apparently all residents in the affected area should have been provided with a contact number for complaints and a residents car pass. There should be signs and marshall's to control traffic from entering the residential roads. It's a condition of the event license that these things are done.The complaints number for problems today is 020 8569 9831. I've spoken to Nick Buckley who is the event organiser and he has assured me that they will do everything necessary to deal with problems. This year they have a tow truck to deal with badly or illegally parked vehicles.I hope that everyone attending the event has a fantastic day, but I'd also like to think that people living in the area that aren't attending can have a good day as well.

The side roads have been closed off now. Maybe the men in fluorescent jackets will have to take people's word for it that they are residents.
