Pedestrian crossing on Horn Lane / Rosemont Rd

Is anyone else affected by the crossing which was just taken down yesterday?  I happened to be using the crossing around they time they were taking it down and asked if it would be replaced soon as it's a major crossing for both Derwentwater and St Vincent's pupils (with school starting this week).  The person I spoke to said it would eventually be replace, making it sound like it might be a while.  I do understand that the light hasn't been functioning properly, but hopefully it will be reinstated soon.

Wow.I'm astonished.That's a very busy crossing for St Vincent's.And to do it just as the schools are atarting back,seems like an incredibly dumb thing to do.

That is such a busy junction, surely it is madness to remove a crossing, especially on Horn Lane.We need MORE crossings in Horn Lane not less surely?Why not write to Ealing Council?

What's a toucan crossing? Toucans, pelicans, zebras!!!

Sounds like we are in a wildlife park.Toucan and pelican are controlled by traffic lights which are pedestrian controlled, a zebra, you just hope motorists stop to let you cross, without mowing you down.

Toucan - Is a crossing for pedestrians and bicycles so "two-can" cross at the same time.

But it already had a pedestrian light and a cycle light, so surely it already was a 'Toucan' crossing, unlike the crossing further up, by Highlands Avenue, which is a 'pelican' crossing.Very strange decision by the council, more unnecessary expense.And as for the 'raised table'at the end of Summerlands Avenue - now when it rains the water cannot flow into the drain in Summerlands Avenue, thus leaving huge puddles in Horn Lane by the bus stop - even worse than they were previously. Another waste of money - I do not see any benefit in it!

'Improved Toucan crossing' is what the plan says. It also says there are (improvements) changes to the cycle path and the bus stop is being moved.As to the raised entry points, your right, what is the point. We were supposed to have one in Essex Road but it has been cancelled due to expense.

There was a lot of water on Horn lane last night. Especially near Hereford. I thought theyd just dug that area up.

I think some of the problem is that the drains are so blocked up with leaves etc the water cannot go down them. also, where they have resurfaced bits of the road, there is now not a 'slope' down towards the drains. I will send an e-mail to the highways department of the council - see what response I get, if any!

As per Bob's comments, it appears that the crossing is being improved, with new posts and signal system already in place.  Looking forward to it being finished and back in use.  However, very annoyed to see that the 'island' crossing outside Springfield Dental Surgery is now being worked on and is out of use (to be removed or improved?), as is the 'island' crossing where Churchfield Road meets Horn Lane (by the Blue Star hotel).  If someone who lives on Rosemont Road needs to get their children to school at Derwentwater, to cross safely they need to go all the way up to the lights at Springfield Park or down to Morrisons.  Not well planned!

I have looked at my plans and the pedestrian islands are shown as being there, but I think there are various adjustments being made.The crossing that really bothers me is the one outside the Co-Op I have crossed there but there is no difference to crossing the road anywhere else, no good for blind people using the tactile stepping stones. And no warning to drivers that it is a crossing.I have had this reply from the council that at least shows the processes:-"The design has been through a stage 2 independent road safety auditwhere no issues were raised at this location. Street lighting levelshave also been confirmed by the street lighting department as being tothe required standard.Illuminated keep right bollard has been programmed to be installed onthe build-out and should be in place in the next two weeks.Upon completion of the scheme, a stage 3 road safety audit will becarried out to confirm the design has had the desired outcome asconstructed and is safe for all road users."

These 'experts' from the Council should come along and try crossing the road outside the Co-Op then perhaps they would unserstand the concern expresed by residents!I bombarded Ealing Council before until we got an island outside El-Gone Driving School and it took some doing but they finally agreed to put the island there. Now of course it has been removed as we have the new pedestrian crossing nearby (in front of the BP Petrol Station).It is obvious that traffic speeds along this road and if pedestrians are going to be able to cross to the other side without getting mowed down then really the Council ought to do something to ensure that cars slow down outside the Co-Op so pedestrians can get across to the other side.There really is no point in having the lower kerb otherwise. A blind pedestrian would have no idea whether ot not it is safe to cross at this point! Looks like an accident waiting to happen!

Jean would it help to have a speed camera and road markings at this location as there are down by the park?So if cars do speed, they would get fined and not do it again.

Yes I think a speed camera would help Dee. Anything to stop drivers from thinking Horn Lane is a race track!In fact one of my neighbours said he has seen cars having to break suddenly when they realise that there is a new crossing outside the BP Petrol Station, and has even noticed that some drivers failed to stop despite the humps supposed to slow traffic down.I would just like to say that pedestrians should not just walk forward onto the zebra crossing until they are sure that the cars have actually stopped or are far enough away not to knock someone down!Why some drivers are such a tearing hurry Heaven only knows! Consideration for others seems to have gone out the window!
