Closing restaurants in Acton

I was out and about in Acton high street today dodging the rain and the puddles when I noticed that there seem to be a lot of closed restaurants now in Acton. So Asia opened then closed then reopened and closed again. It then became Cinammon Palace but didn't last long. All boarded up and dark.As is Bohemia which used to be Rasputins.Now I've been told that Thai place I used to pop into for lunch in Market St has also shut up. What a shame.

I thought i saw a sign on the shutters the other week to say that they were away on their summer holidays!

So Asiaq site has been a disaster area for years and rasputins etc also a tricky location.I looked at teh thai place notice today and it definitely looked like vacation - due back on the 9th or 15th (one was crossed out and the other writen over but I cant recall which way round)Acton restaurants may be feeling the pinch but I dont think these examples demonstrate it. Go into North China almost any night - really good places still do well.

Thai place in Market Parade originally said it would open on 26th August so a little worrying that it is still closed.  I have enjoyed a number of good meals there.  Anyone tried the new West Indian takeaway Mr Juice in the High Street?

Thank you Sara and Jill. I do hope the little Thai place in Market St (is it called Ploy?) reopens as I have had some lovely lunches there. I didnt know about the new West Indian, Jill. I will have to try it. Maybe I saw it and thought it was a juice bar!We have been to North China a couple of times Sara but although very good, I find Chinese a bit bland now. We regularly go to Thai Nice across the road as the food and service are excellent. (We were there on Sunday for their 10th anniversary and had a wonderful time).

Yes Jen you are right. Despite it being hard work, long hours and a risk, there are always people wanting to open their own businesses. I wish them luck.

I think a Nandos would go down well where So Asia was.  They always seem to do really well wherever they are located.

I gave never tried Nandos but I have seen one at Ealing Common and another in Bond St Ealing. I saw a quiz programme recently asking the origins of Nandos and was surprised the answer was South Africa! I thought it was portuguese or Brazilian. I would have lost oh dear

Not very keen on Nando's but did go to a small chain recently - in kilburn - called Little Bay. there are half a dozen and it's straightforward food: goulash, risotto, salads with starters of grilled veg or asparagus. Icredibly cheap and cheerful: seven of us had two courses each and two bottles of wine for £100 odd including service.

kalinka is quite good, Turkish food, very healthy and quite reasonable. They don't skimp either with lots of goodies as starters etc, i tend to get full before the meal comes.This is the way I like to dine-very leisurely. My favorite is the succulent lamb kebabs. Try it. It's i Churchfield road just opposite the car parks.

I love kalinka - we go quite a lot and the CCA supper quizzes are held downstairs there too

Hasn't Poets Brasserie also closed now? The last few times I've tried to go in the evening it's been completely shut up. Maybe I'm wrong? I hope so!

Do you know, I think you have just come up with the first absolute benefit of being middle-aged and quite scary? No- one has come near harassing me outside Kalinka- or anywhere else for that matter

Shame if Poet's Brasserie has shut.  We only ate there once - not cheap but a very nice Italian restaurant, very much of the 'old school'.

It had only been there a year or so - we tried it once at the start and weren't impressed but it was ever so new. I kept meaning to go back and give it another go but what with the Rocket and Kalinka and North China and Bombay Bistro and then Anokha, it never got back to the top of the list.They weren't Italian were they?

Yes, there are loads of chains of Nandos in South Africa. I am married to a 'Saffa' and remember sampling the experience there first about 10 years ago.

We went in last night - an ordinary Wednesday - and including us, there were five tables occupied out of a possible six maybe.I thought that rather good news
