Raised crossing causing problems!

The raised zebra crossing on Horn Lane at the junctions of Grafton Rd and Hereford Rd appears to be causing vibrations to buildings when skip lorry's and HGV vehicles go over it without slowing down and, as one neighbour put it, the noise sounds like a building falling down.  Has anybody else noticed the noise or vibrations?This crossing is supposed to be a traffic calming measure, which clearly is not working as these heavy vehicles do not bother to slow down.Is this yet another hair-brained scheme and, money wasting exercise?

Same goes for most (all?) of the humps, but you forgot to mention the damage to emergency vehicles. I watch as the council spends a fortune repairing all the cracks in the road and then they spend another load of money putting humps in. But much of the money is rebate from EU subscriptions, so what else would we be able to find to waste it on? I do not have humps near my own house, but the surface cracks are quite bad enough. At least one council in North London removed all the humps in their area.

Nicola, are you saying that the vehicles causing the problem are speeding.If yes, have you reported this for enforcement by the Police?

Not necessarily speeding, just don,t slow down to go over the ramp.  Hitting the ramp at 30 mph, is going to cause problems, they bounce.

Complain complain complain. My sister lives in a quiet street but near to an industrial park. In 14 years she never had any problem with noise. Then the council last year built 2 sets of ramps in the road. Suddenly every vehicle was bang bang  as they passed. All the neighbours complained and the council came back and reduced the height of the ramps. Still the lorries and trucks didnt slow down and they would crash down after passing the ramp. Then the next. Finally after more complaining, they have returned and made the ramps smaller again.

......well because residents complained (or should we say 'pointed out' the difficulty) - the Council tried to solve the problem.If you don't tell whoever causes a difficulty they won't know they are causing a problem.

I drove along Horn Lane yesterday: one of the problems is that there is only one white-painted 'slow' on the road just before the hump - nothing in the other direction, so some people will be caught by surprise if unfamiliar with the area. Of course, there are those who just don't care...

Four way temporary traffic lights go in this morning between Acacia and Grafton.  Would that be to repair the great big crack across the Horn Ln, on the west side?

Just taken the dog for a walk, not repairs to the road but, BT.  Busy doing nothing and, causing traffic congestion the whole length of Horn Ln.  What next?

Next? Must be time for British gas, Thames water and s. Electric to start digging again.
