Toshiba laptop

Could anyone advise how I can get more space on my laptop? It's around 6 years old.    On the C: Vista drive I currently have 95.4 mb free of 46.8 gb.  The problem is, I have hardly any files on the computer.  There are lots of programs, however, I am unsure which ones are needed and if I deleted them I am worried if my computer would stop working.  Any help gratefully received.  Is there a specialist anywhere that I could take it to?  Many thanks.

I don't know what system you are on but, try the following.(1)  disc clean up and delete system restore points. (all but the latest.)(2)  disc defragment.These settings can be found under tools if you click on the start icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, or from the pop-up list. (tools, accessories etc.)(3)  remove unwanted programs that you have installed, NOT the pre-loaded. I work on XP Pro, but, vista should be no different.You could try Acton Computers on the High St, close to the library.

You can use a "live" CD or DVD running on Linux to see what is really on your hard disc, I use Knoppix and can give you a copy, or you can download it yourself via the internet (available from the University of Kent at www.mirrorservice.org)

You should probably backup the content of the drive first. Your laptop probably has a USB port. You can use that to attach an external disk which you can get for as little as £30.Check what version of USB your laptop supports (probably 1.1) and make sure that external drive you buy is compatible with it.
