Parking in the High Street

There are so many plans to 'improve' the High Street but I have never understood why parking is permitted after 6pm. In the evenings, driving East to West or vice versa becomes a nightmare with cars parked on both sides, McDonads and Superdrug lorries unloading and buses and cars trying to navigate all of this. The High Street is so narrow that something needs to be done.

I agree Munira especially with the buses too, but presumably these drivers are frequenting the local businesses, shops, restaurants etc, if they are forced off the High Street will they just park on the streets off the High Street whose CPZs end at 5? Not sure which is worse, I consider myself lucky if I manage to park on my street at all if I come home after 5 as it is.
