Residents be aware - Burglaries on the rise on the ward

Dear Acton Central residents; Burglaries are on the rise on the ward. We have been averaging 10 in a month period for the last 6 months but have already hit 10 so far this month. The majority have occurred whereby offender/s have gained access to the rear of properties and forced open windows and doors using tools and/or body pressure (i.e. kicking). Please be vigilant, secure your property, log all high value items onto immobilise.com, consider improving security be it locks, alarms or lighting. If you would like advice or a free home security survey please contact me (if you live in the Acton central ward) or your local safer neighbourhood’s team. We as a team are increasing our patrols in the effected areas with a view to deter and detect offences. Kind regards

This month has seen Burglaries occur in the St Dunstan’s, Goldsmith and Friars Way areas. We arrested three last night with suspected stolen property but urge any residents with helfpul info to please get in touch. Thank you

Three males trying to break into my house about a month ago totally bent the door handle assembly and left many deep gouges in the door, although the window survived an impact from a heavy brick. Police arrived in force and arrested them, they were convicted only of damage to my door handle but case dismissed for attempted burglary. Not sure whether they were after contents or the whole house as a squat. The police did their job,....

Case dismissed??!!!! Unbelievable, says it all doesn't it.Plod does an excellent job, then the judiciary let them down - as usual.What wager that these 3 will be at it again soon, or already are?

Hi Mark, good work again on catching these guys.Can I ask please from your experience, if houses with alarms are generally left in favour of neighboring ones without alarms or not?We have an alarm, and I've always wondered exactly how much of a real detterent they are.We also have two large very protective dogs, so I think all angles are covered, but curious nonetheless.Best regards, Carl

I think dogs can be a great deterent.Many years ago, 5 houses in a row were burgled one night in my road until they came to the next house which had a dog. That's where the burglers stopped.I know my 2 dogs would go crazy (and they do) if they heard anyone near my house. They bark like crazy if a leaf blows down the path !!Although properly alarmed ourselves, a lot of my neighbours have these 'fake' alarm boxes attached to their houses and I often wonder if a burgler takes his chance on seeing an 'alarmed' house.

Do they assume that there is something valuable, so take precautions as you break in?Unfortunately there are too many "false alarms" (?) so many are simply ignored, while the police have not always attended unless an intruder is known to be there. There are several local authority requirements for any working alarm system regarding keyholders, etc, which almost mandate a professional alarm company with expensive remote monitoring.

Agree with last couple of posts. We have a monitored alarm which flashes red and green - I suppose to show that it isn't a dummy box?I suspect though that a lot of these are opportunistic break-ins (though not all of them clearly).I'll have to just feed the dogs less and keen them hungryand alert!Carl

I've just heard from someone who lives in Burlington gardens and he was burgled last week and his neighbours a few doors up a few weeks before that.
